Rationale for Double Page Spread

On the right hand side of my double page spread will be the dominant image of the artist, they will be wearing alternative clothing to fit the genre of the magazine. This will have a caption that fits the article.

On the left hand side of the magazine at the top of the page there will be the title, this will be in the same font and colour as the masthead on the front cover so it fits the theme of the magazine. Underneath that there will be the tagline that is in the same colour as the title but not as bold so it doesn't draw any attention away from the title. The article will take up most of that page and it will be arranged around the the pull quote. The pull quote will be in the middle of the page so it draws attention. If the reader reads the pull quote then they will want to read the rest of the article and that means they are more likely to buy the magazine.

Underneath the article will be a sub image of the artist that is relevant to the article and beside this will be important information.

Magazine

This is what I have done in the lesson today with my magazine. Next lesson I will move the barcode to the corner and add more essential information.
31/10/16

At the end of this lesson I will hopefully research on existing magazines so I can get inspiration from them and i will have started making a first draft of my own magazine.

By the end of this lesson I sourced existing products and uploaded them to my blog. I also started making a first draft of my own magazine.

Rationale for front cover

At the top of my front cover there will be some important information like the date and issue number to make it look professional and real. I will have a sub title underneath that to show the readers other people other artists on the magazine so they will be more likely to buy it if they can see other artists and bands. Next to the sub title I will have a sub image to show who the title is about. The mast head will be very big and bold and will be burgundy as that is a very popular colour with people who like alternative music and this type of magazine. The mast head will be very big so that it stands out and people can see the magazine and know what it is. The font of the tagline will look broken and cracked as it makes it look alternative and it will fit the genre. Underneath there will be a tagline so it draws the attention of the reader, the tagline will be a lot smaller that the mast head so it doesn't draw all the attention away from the masthead but it will be in the same colour. The tagline will be short and snappy so people will be able to remember it and know it's from this magazine.

The dominant image will take up the majority of the front cover to show the importance of the artist. They will be wearing alternative clothing like a black shirt and a plaid shirt over the top of that, this will give the magazine a dark tone to it and attract people who dress like that as they typically listen to alternative music.

Around the dominant image I will have posters of other alternative bands/artists so people who don't like the main dominant image will buy it for the other people in the magazine. I will have a plug near the dominant image to show that the two are connected, as the plug is to win tickets to the main artists concerts. This will make more people buy it as it is a free tickets to a very expensive concert. The plug will also be in very bright colours so it stands out from the front cover and draws people in. The barcode will be at the bottom left of the page it will be small so it doesn't draw any attention away but big enough that it will be easy to locate. Important information will also be here to, to show the readers how much the magazine is again. This is so if it is in two locations then the reader will end up looking at one of them and they will know. The main sell line will be at the bottom of the dominant image and will be in bright bold colours so it stands out and people will know who the main article is about.

Existing Magazines

This is some magazines that I am basing the layout of my own magazine on. This has helped me identify what my magazine will kind of look like and the basic things I need to include in my magazine so it appeals to the right target audience.

Rationale for Contents Page

At the top of the contents page there will be a header which says 'Contents'. This will be in the same broken, burgundy font as the masthead on the front cover to show that it is still an alternative magazine and to stick with the dark colour scheme. There will be images around this that look like they have drawn. The images will be alternative so they will keep with the the theme of the magazine. Next to this will be important information like the date and issue number so the readers know what copy they are reading and when it was produced. The dominant image will take up the half of the page to show who the main article is about. Down the left hand side the will be the rest of the features of the magazine, this is to show the readers what else is in the magazine and so there will be something to appeal to them if they don't like the main artist on the front cover. The colours of this will be burgundy and white to stand out and to also stick to the colour scheme.

At the bottom right of the page will be the editor's note and this makes it look more professional. The bottom left of the contents page will be all the social media links, this is because the people who read these types of magazines use lots of social media so they will use this.

Location Scout

Location scout from Francesca Foston

This has helped me figure out where I will take my photos for my photoshoot as I have got different reasons for each of them and all different locations would give my photos all different look and feel. I have decided to go to the beach for my shoot as it offers more of what I want for my photos.

First attempt of a front cover

This is my first attempt at a front cover of a magazine. I found this very difficult as I didn't know what I was doing. I didn't know how to use the tools on Photoshop and so I accidently cut of some of the parts of the people. I also found it very difficult to place things where they should be as I didnt understand what I was doing. I think with a lot of practice and when I learn more about a magazine I will be able to make a better front cover, as well as progressing onto a contents page and a double page spread.

Front Cover

This is the front cover that my group and I made for the college magazine. The colours schemes for the magazine are blue and white as they are the colours of the college. There are images from around the college and some of the art work inside of it to show that the college cares about the students and wants to display their work in the magazine. The lighting is just natural lighting to give the images a happy look as it is sunny and bright.

I have learned how to make a front cover for a college magazine. Next time I will include a range of different images and put more plus on so it looks more busy. I would also change the colour of the background from white so it looks less boring.

17/10/16

by the end of this lesson i will have made flat plans, rationals and a contents and front cover for a college magazine. they will be uploaded to the blog.

at the end of the lesson I made a flat plan and rational for a front cover and contents page for a college magazine. I also made the front cover and contents page. I uploaded everything but the final front cover so I will do it as homework.

Flat Plan for Front Cover

This is the flat plan for the front cover of the music magazine. It is going to have 3/4 images on it and the images will be eye level so they draw the readers in. The location will be around the college campus. the magazine is going to have lots of plugs and subheadings.

I hav learned how to make a flat plan for a front cover of a music magazine. To improve this I will add images.

Contents Page

I have learned how to make a contents page for a college magazine. Next time I will add more information like a page number.

Flat Plan for Contents Page

When I take pictures for the contents page I will us a wide angle to include the entire image. I will have the image at eye level. It will have some slang words as it is a student magazine and that will attract more people ad make them buy it. The location for the image will be in the library and it will be somebody reading a book.

I have learned how to make a flat plan for a magazine contents page. Next time I will add more things onto it.

Final Costume, Hair and Make-Up.

Final costume, hair and make up. from Francesca Foston

This helped me make my final decision on what my model will be wearing and what her hair and make-up will look like. This also helps me tell my model what she should look like on the day of the shoot so that I can get what I want for my photos.
12/10/16

In this lesson I will try and attempt to make a music magazine cover and upload it to the blog.

At the end of the lesson I made a magazine cover and uploaded it to my blog.

10/10/16

The aim for this lesson is to make plans for the photoshoot and email the model. I will upload these to the blog.

At the end of this lesson I finished making my photoshoot planning and I also started planning health and safety, however I didn't upload them as I didn't have time to.

Photoshoot planning

This helped me plan my photoshoot so I can get the best possible photos for my music magazine so that more people will be interested because it will look like a professional product. It also means that my model will be organised and know exactly what they will have to do and wear for my photos.

Model

This is my evidence for my model, I have told her when the photo-shoot is and all other important information and she said that it was fine.

Reader profile

This is my reader profile I created with surveys to categorise the people that read my genre of magazine. This has helped me find out what people like to have in magazine front covers, contents page and double-page spread and also what the age range for it is. This will then help me decide what I will include in my magazine so it will appeal to more people such as giving away concert tickets as a lot of people who like alternative music go to concerts.
5/10/16

In this lesson I will hopefully have uploaded my audience profiles and done some of my reflections on my posts.

At the end of the lesson I finished and uploaded my audience profiles and I did my reflection on one of my posts

The Midnight Beast Article

In the future when I do articles I will add page numbers in the corner of the pages. I would also make the font size smaller for the byline so it fits in the page and make sure it looks right. Next time I will also make sure that I have traditional columns for the double page spread.

Audience Profiles

Powered by emaze Creating my audience profiles helped me understand what people are into and who would read my magazine. This helped me for my final product as I now understand who likes alternative music and who I should be targeting with my magazine and they helped as they told me what they'd like in a magazine so I can create it around their feedback.

Facial Expressions

This helped me find out what facial expressions are popular in magazines. I will use this to decide what facial expression i would like to use for my magazine cover, contents and DPS. I will use the seductive and the super smiler for my models facial expressions.
3/10/16

My goals for this lesson is to finish and upload a target audience mood board.

At the end of the lesson i uploaded my target audience mood board and nearly finished my audience profiles.

Target Audience Mood Board

This helped me see what type of people would want to read my magazine and what they would like in it. For example the types of bands they listen to. I will use this to help me decide what type of bands/artists I would have in the magazine.

Facial Expressions Mood Board

This helped me gather a lot of facial expressions of famous celebrities and compare them to each to see which ones look better and which ones would look good on my magazine.

Generic Conventions.

This helped me identify what things go into a typical music magazine and why they are used. This will help me when I do my magazine as I will use more pictures on the contents page and set my article out in a non Q&A form.
