14/12/16

By the end of this lesson I will make improvements to my contents page and front cover.

At the end of the lesson I improved my contents page an front cover and I also made a contact sheet for the images I took at the beginning of the lesson.

Contact Sheet for Photoshoot

This is a contact sheet for all of my images that I took for my photoshoot. I have 4 different costumes for it and they are all took in different places around the beach. i will look at each of them so I can decide which one is best to use, as some of them don't fit the genre and some are blurry or too dark.

12/12/16

By the end of the lesson I will hopefully finish my draft of the double page spread and I will upload it to my blog and do my compare and contrast.

At the end of the lesson I finished my double page spread and uploaded it to my blog. i then did my compare and contrast and uploaded that to my blog too.

Compare and Contrast for Double Page Spread

This is my compare and contrast for my double page spread. This has helped see what my magazine and another one has and what mine has different. It also shows what I need to add when I improve it to make it look more realistic.

Double Page Spread Draft Finished

This is my final draft for my double page spread. I wrote the article ad aded some pull quotes and another image. I like the way this is set out as it looks like an actual magazine article and I think have included practically everything that you need to on a magazine.

Monday, 5 December 2016

This is what I did in todays lesson. I added a picture, made a masthead, and put important information on like the dat, page number and the name of the magazine at the bottom of the page. Next lesson I will write the article and put the page number and the other page as well as the photo and writing credits.
5/12/16

In todays lesson I will do my self assessment for my contents page, find dome double page spreads that I can use for inspiration and start my double page spread.

by the end of the lesson today I did my self assessment. I found some double page spreads and uploaded them to the blog. I also started making my double page spread.

Double Page Spread inspiration

I will base my Double Page Spread off these Kerrang! pages because I like the way the layout and I think it suits my magazine genre.

Friday, 2 December 2016

This is another draft for my contents page. I added logos of alternative band at the top of the page and I changed the colour of the page numbers so they were easier to locate and didn't blend into the back

Wednesday, 30 November 2016

30/11/16

At the end of this lesson I will have done my peer assessment, printed out my contents page and second draft of my front cover. I will have done my compare and contrast and a interview about my contents page.

by the end of this lesson I did everything except for the interview because the person was in another class and it is all uploaded to my blog.

Compare and Contrast for contents page

This is my compare and contrast for my contents page. This has helped me see what i have done similar and different to the actual magazine and what I can do to improve it next time. For example I used a guest editor for my editors note and next time I could maybe add more images to my contents page.

Feedback for Contents page

This is the peer feedback fro my contents page. I have lots of things to improve on and I know how to do them. This has helped me know what people like about my contents page and what I need to improve, such as have less boxes and fix the editors note so it doesn't go over the box.

Contents cover draft

This is my first draft for my contents page. I have tried to include everything I can that is on a contents page and I have learned where things need to go on a contents page by doing this.

Monday, 21 November 2016

21/11/16

This lesson I will carry on working on my magazine contents page and upload the progress to the blog.

At the end of the lesson I added things to my contents page and uploaded them to the blog.

Magazine Contents Page Draft

This is what I did in todays Media Lesson. I started working on my contents page again as my other attempt from the previous lesson has been deleted and I forgot to upload it to the blog before that. I put boxes where each of my things will go so I know exactly where they need to be and I have started filling in some of the boxes. This really helped me because I had a plan for what I was going to do. Next lesson I will put a photo on and add more things to the title.

Inspiration for Contents Page

I got lots of images of the contents page of Kerrang! because I am going to base my magazine off this. Doing this has helped me decide which bits of each contents page I am going to copy and use on my contents page. I like this layout because I like how each important bit has a section.

Monday, 14 November 2016

14/11/16

By the end of this lesson I will have finished my magazine, peer assessed other peoples work (mine will also be peer assessed). I will also have an interview with someone about my magazine and I will have compared and contrasted my front cover with another. If I have time I will self assess and start making my contents page. All of thee things will be posted to the blog.

At the end of this lesson I finished my magazine, I also peer assessed other peoples while men was being peer assessed. I then uploaded these to the blog. I didn't do my interview because the person I am interviewing is in another class so I will do that in my spare time and upload it. I did my compare and contrast task and uploaded that to the blog and I have started planning my contents page. Next lesson I will do the self assessment and start on my contents page.

Compare and Contrast

This is my compare and contrast task that I did after I had finished my magazine. I compared my magazine to a magazine that mine was based off (NME) and I said what was the same, what was different and what I would do to improve. My magazine had aspects of two NME magazines on it for example it had a dominant image of one person with everything placed around it. This task has helped me no what I can do to improve when I make my final cover, for example adding a background color and basing it more off magazines as mine is loosely based off NME. The next time I make my magazine it will be more closely based of NME's magazine style.

Peer Assessment of Front Cover Draft

This is my final draft of my front cover. I have had lots of feedback from people telling me things I could improve and what they like about it. This task has helped me identify what I could do to help me improve when I make my final front cover. To improve i am going to add a background color and have a better quality image.

Friday, 11 November 2016

This is another draft of my front cover. I changed the colour of the background so it fits the theme and genre of it. I also added a tagline at the top and images of music events that I took. I also started to make the sell line for it and add more plugs/puffs. Next time I will finish make the sell line and the other plug, as well as editing the images more and make some of the text a bit bolder so they stand out.

Magazine

This is what I have done in the lesson. I made the dominant image bigger so it fills most of the space and I replaced the pictures of the bands with pictures of Jade. I also moved somethings around so it all fits better.
9/11/16

By the end of this lesson I will have improved more of my magazine and uploaded it to my blog.

At the end of the lesson I improved further on my magazine and uploaded it to the blog.

Monday, 7 November 2016

7/11/16

In this lesson I will talk about generic conventions and I will improve my magazine blog further and upload it on my blog.

By the end of the lesson I improved my magazine further and added it to my blog.

Front cover draft

This is what I did in the lesson. I have added more things such as images and made the images bigger. Next lesson I will improve further.

Wednesday, 2 November 2016

2/11/16

In this lesson I will analyze a front cover of a magazine to help me with my own. The I will keep making my front cover for my magazine.

At the end of the lesson I added more things to my front cover magazine and I uploaded the progress to my blog.

Front cover draft

This is the progress I am making with my draft front cover. I changed the title to a better font, added essential information, images and a better competition. This has helped me see how I am progressing and what I need to do next lesson.

Rationale for Double Page Spread

On the right hand side of my double page spread will be the dominant image of the artist, they will be wearing alternative clothing to fit the genre of the magazine. This will have a caption that fits the article.

On the left hand side of the magazine at the top of the page there will be the title, this will be in the same font and colour as the masthead on the front cover so it fits the theme of the magazine. Underneath that there will be the tagline that is in the same colour as the title but not as bold so it doesn't draw any attention away from the title. The article will take up most of that page and it will be arranged around the the pull quote. The pull quote will be in the middle of the page so it draws attention. If the reader reads the pull quote then they will want to read the rest of the article and that means they are more likely to buy the magazine.

Underneath the article will be a sub image of the artist that is relevant to the article and beside this will be important information.

Magazine

This is what I have done in the lesson today with my magazine. Next lesson I will move the barcode to the corner and add more essential information.
31/10/16

At the end of this lesson I will hopefully research on existing magazines so I can get inspiration from them and i will have started making a first draft of my own magazine.

By the end of this lesson I sourced existing products and uploaded them to my blog. I also started making a first draft of my own magazine.

Rationale for front cover

At the top of my front cover there will be some important information like the date and issue number to make it look professional and real. I will have a sub title underneath that to show the readers other people other artists on the magazine so they will be more likely to buy it if they can see other artists and bands. Next to the sub title I will have a sub image to show who the title is about. The mast head will be very big and bold and will be burgundy as that is a very popular colour with people who like alternative music and this type of magazine. The mast head will be very big so that it stands out and people can see the magazine and know what it is. The font of the tagline will look broken and cracked as it makes it look alternative and it will fit the genre. Underneath there will be a tagline so it draws the attention of the reader, the tagline will be a lot smaller that the mast head so it doesn't draw all the attention away from the masthead but it will be in the same colour. The tagline will be short and snappy so people will be able to remember it and know it's from this magazine.

The dominant image will take up the majority of the front cover to show the importance of the artist. They will be wearing alternative clothing like a black shirt and a plaid shirt over the top of that, this will give the magazine a dark tone to it and attract people who dress like that as they typically listen to alternative music.

Around the dominant image I will have posters of other alternative bands/artists so people who don't like the main dominant image will buy it for the other people in the magazine. I will have a plug near the dominant image to show that the two are connected, as the plug is to win tickets to the main artists concerts. This will make more people buy it as it is a free tickets to a very expensive concert. The plug will also be in very bright colours so it stands out from the front cover and draws people in. The barcode will be at the bottom left of the page it will be small so it doesn't draw any attention away but big enough that it will be easy to locate. Important information will also be here to, to show the readers how much the magazine is again. This is so if it is in two locations then the reader will end up looking at one of them and they will know. The main sell line will be at the bottom of the dominant image and will be in bright bold colours so it stands out and people will know who the main article is about.

Existing Magazines

This is some magazines that I am basing the layout of my own magazine on. This has helped me identify what my magazine will kind of look like and the basic things I need to include in my magazine so it appeals to the right target audience.

Rationale for Contents Page

At the top of the contents page there will be a header which says 'Contents'. This will be in the same broken, burgundy font as the masthead on the front cover to show that it is still an alternative magazine and to stick with the dark colour scheme. There will be images around this that look like they have drawn. The images will be alternative so they will keep with the the theme of the magazine. Next to this will be important information like the date and issue number so the readers know what copy they are reading and when it was produced. The dominant image will take up the half of the page to show who the main article is about. Down the left hand side the will be the rest of the features of the magazine, this is to show the readers what else is in the magazine and so there will be something to appeal to them if they don't like the main artist on the front cover. The colours of this will be burgundy and white to stand out and to also stick to the colour scheme.

At the bottom right of the page will be the editor's note and this makes it look more professional. The bottom left of the contents page will be all the social media links, this is because the people who read these types of magazines use lots of social media so they will use this.

Location Scout

Location scout from Francesca Foston

This has helped me figure out where I will take my photos for my photoshoot as I have got different reasons for each of them and all different locations would give my photos all different look and feel. I have decided to go to the beach for my shoot as it offers more of what I want for my photos.

First attempt of a front cover

This is my first attempt at a front cover of a magazine. I found this very difficult as I didn't know what I was doing. I didn't know how to use the tools on Photoshop and so I accidently cut of some of the parts of the people. I also found it very difficult to place things where they should be as I didnt understand what I was doing. I think with a lot of practice and when I learn more about a magazine I will be able to make a better front cover, as well as progressing onto a contents page and a double page spread.

Front Cover

This is the front cover that my group and I made for the college magazine. The colours schemes for the magazine are blue and white as they are the colours of the college. There are images from around the college and some of the art work inside of it to show that the college cares about the students and wants to display their work in the magazine. The lighting is just natural lighting to give the images a happy look as it is sunny and bright.

I have learned how to make a front cover for a college magazine. Next time I will include a range of different images and put more plus on so it looks more busy. I would also change the colour of the background from white so it looks less boring.

17/10/16

by the end of this lesson i will have made flat plans, rationals and a contents and front cover for a college magazine. they will be uploaded to the blog.

at the end of the lesson I made a flat plan and rational for a front cover and contents page for a college magazine. I also made the front cover and contents page. I uploaded everything but the final front cover so I will do it as homework.

Flat Plan for Front Cover

This is the flat plan for the front cover of the music magazine. It is going to have 3/4 images on it and the images will be eye level so they draw the readers in. The location will be around the college campus. the magazine is going to have lots of plugs and subheadings.

I hav learned how to make a flat plan for a front cover of a music magazine. To improve this I will add images.

Contents Page

I have learned how to make a contents page for a college magazine. Next time I will add more information like a page number.

Flat Plan for Contents Page

When I take pictures for the contents page I will us a wide angle to include the entire image. I will have the image at eye level. It will have some slang words as it is a student magazine and that will attract more people ad make them buy it. The location for the image will be in the library and it will be somebody reading a book.

I have learned how to make a flat plan for a magazine contents page. Next time I will add more things onto it.

Final Costume, Hair and Make-Up.

Final costume, hair and make up. from Francesca Foston

This helped me make my final decision on what my model will be wearing and what her hair and make-up will look like. This also helps me tell my model what she should look like on the day of the shoot so that I can get what I want for my photos.
12/10/16

In this lesson I will try and attempt to make a music magazine cover and upload it to the blog.

At the end of the lesson I made a magazine cover and uploaded it to my blog.

Monday, 10 October 2016

10/10/16

The aim for this lesson is to make plans for the photoshoot and email the model. I will upload these to the blog.

At the end of this lesson I finished making my photoshoot planning and I also started planning health and safety, however I didn't upload them as I didn't have time to.

Photoshoot planning

This helped me plan my photoshoot so I can get the best possible photos for my music magazine so that more people will be interested because it will look like a professional product. It also means that my model will be organised and know exactly what they will have to do and wear for my photos.

Model

This is my evidence for my model, I have told her when the photo-shoot is and all other important information and she said that it was fine.

Reader profile

This is my reader profile I created with surveys to categorise the people that read my genre of magazine. This has helped me find out what people like to have in magazine front covers, contents page and double-page spread and also what the age range for it is. This will then help me decide what I will include in my magazine so it will appeal to more people such as giving away concert tickets as a lot of people who like alternative music go to concerts.
5/10/16

In this lesson I will hopefully have uploaded my audience profiles and done some of my reflections on my posts.

At the end of the lesson I finished and uploaded my audience profiles and I did my reflection on one of my posts

The Midnight Beast Article

In the future when I do articles I will add page numbers in the corner of the pages. I would also make the font size smaller for the byline so it fits in the page and make sure it looks right. Next time I will also make sure that I have traditional columns for the double page spread.

Audience Profiles

Powered by emaze Creating my audience profiles helped me understand what people are into and who would read my magazine. This helped me for my final product as I now understand who likes alternative music and who I should be targeting with my magazine and they helped as they told me what they'd like in a magazine so I can create it around their feedback.

Monday, 3 October 2016

Facial Expressions

This helped me find out what facial expressions are popular in magazines. I will use this to decide what facial expression i would like to use for my magazine cover, contents and DPS. I will use the seductive and the super smiler for my models facial expressions.
3/10/16

My goals for this lesson is to finish and upload a target audience mood board.

At the end of the lesson i uploaded my target audience mood board and nearly finished my audience profiles.

Target Audience Mood Board

This helped me see what type of people would want to read my magazine and what they would like in it. For example the types of bands they listen to. I will use this to help me decide what type of bands/artists I would have in the magazine.

Facial Expressions Mood Board

This helped me gather a lot of facial expressions of famous celebrities and compare them to each to see which ones look better and which ones would look good on my magazine.

Generic Conventions.

This helped me identify what things go into a typical music magazine and why they are used. This will help me when I do my magazine as I will use more pictures on the contents page and set my article out in a non Q&A form.

Wednesday, 28 September 2016

28/9/16

In this lesson I will hopefully finish and upload my Competition and Generic Conventions and Facial Expressions.

By the end of the lesson I uploaded my Competition and I nearly finished my Generic Conventions. For my homework I will upload my Generic Conventions and Facial Expressions.

Competition

This helped me identify what my competition is from other magazines and what they use in their magazines. I will use this when I am making my magazine so I know what I need to use in my magazine to stand out from the others. For example I will make it cheaper than the other magazines so more people will buy it.

Institution Research

Institution research from Francesca Foston

This helped me find out what different companies make magazines and what magazines they make. This helped me pick which company I would print my magazine with, which would be IPC Media because they don't have a music magazine so it would be new for them and I would have no competition.

Monday, 26 September 2016

26/9/16

In this lesson I will hopefully upload my Pinterest mood boards to my blog as well as writing about research of companies. i all also hopefully write about my competition and generic conventions.

In this lesson I uploaded my Pinterest mood boards and i researched some magazine companies.

Costume, Hair and Make Up

This helped me understand what type of hair, makeup and clothes are popular in the alternative music genre so it helped me figure out what I'd have my model look like for the photographs. I will have them wearing dark clothing and a messed up hair style.

Colour Schemes

This helped me understand what types of colour schemes are out there and what types would be suitable for my magazine. I chose that I will use dark colours such as black and burgundy for the colours in my magazine but bright colours to help certain things stand out.

Fonts

This helped me understand what fonts are popular in magazines and what other types of fonts I would like for my magazine. The font style that I would like to use for my magazine would be a bold font as it could help the magazine stand out and it links with the alternative music as people who listen to that are bold and stand out.

Mastheads

19/9/16

In todays lesson I will learn key word and hopefully start my class deconstruction.

at the end of the lesson I had written down key words for the front cover, contents page and the double page. I also started my class deconstruction and I will finish next lesson.

Survay

This is my survey that I created to find out about my audience.
 https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/52SM7G2
It helps me understand what type of people read magazines and what type of people read alternative magazines and how they like their magazine set out. This will help me create a magazine aimed to what people like.

Language features in a magazine

14/9/16

In this lesson I will write and learn about language and register and i will hopefully start an article draft.

At the end of the lesson I made a powerpoint presentation about language ad register for example formal and informal language and alliteration and the use of it on magazine. I chose a magazine and a article and wrote about the use of language and register in this magazine. I also started the article draft that I will be doing for homework.

Magazine collage

Mood board inspiration

Briefs
When centres choose briefs to offer to candidates, they should be guided by their strengths in terms of resources and expertise. Centres should also bear in mind the key areas: forms and conventions, production contexts, the role of technologies, audiences/users and representations.
The set briefs are as follows:
Print
Preliminary exercise: using DTP and an image manipulation program, produce the front page of a new school/college magazine, featuring a photograph of a student in medium close-up plus some appropriately laid-out text and a masthead. Additionally candidates must produce a DTP mock-up of the layout of the contents page to demonstrate their grasp of the program.
Main task: the front page, contents and double page spread of a new music magazine (if done as a group task, each member of the group to produce an individual edition of the magazine, following the same house style). Maximum four members to a group.
~ All images and text used must be original, produced by the candidate(s), minimum of FOURimages per candidate. ~

Welcome

Hi, welcome to my AS Media blog where I will be posting my work from the course. Enjoy!
12/9/16

In this Media lesson I will make a moldboard of ideas for the type of genre my magazine will be and I will also write my proposal table.

At the end of this Media lesson I made a moldboard that had pictures and explanations as to why I chose them for the genre of my magazine, the genre being alternative. I also wrote my proposal table and put all of my ideas that I am going to include on in my magazine on it. For example the genre of music and what is associated with it and also thing that I will include and not include on it.

Wednesday, 7 September 2016

7/9/16

In this lesson I will set up my blog and start to write posts for it such as the introduction and briefs.

By the end of the lesson I created my blog and changed the background and colours as well as writing the introduction and briefs.
